Stones of Memory (2026) -Private Viewing @HeyCamelCeramics
-Permanently Closed Gallery Stones of Memory

"If The Mountain Doesn't Go to Mohamed, Mohamed Must Go To The Mountain"-Francis Bacon (1561-1626)
In this exhibition, Leandro interprets a colloquial Spanish proverb, "If the mountain doesn't go to Mohammed, Mohammed must go to the mountain" to contemplate the importance of actively pursuing one's desires and goals.
For him, this saying suggests that if what one longs for is not readily accessible, one must find a way to reach it.The artist connects this idea to his own upbringing, using it as an invitation to explore how landscapes, both remembered and imagined, can evoke feelings of home and fulfill emotional needs.
The pieces in this show are shaped by childhood memories, textures, and colors from his birthplace in the Canary Islands. They express a yearning to reconstruct these landscapes as a way to process absence, distance, and the subtle ache of dislocation.
Suiseki is the Japanese art of appreciating naturally occurring or shaped stones that resemble landscapes, objects, or scenes from nature. Traditionally, a meditative and poetic practice, suiseki invites viewers to see mountains, rivers, or distant horizons within the smallest of stones. In a multicultural gesture, Leandro reinterprets this ancient art form through a contemporary lens, embedding his sense of identity and belonging by using this medium to recreate the Canary Islands essence within a Vietnamese context. In doing so, he brings together multiple geographies and cultural threads, using local materials and global symbols to reflect the emotional topography of home.
Over time, the original saying has become so embedded in cultural memory that people often recite it backwards, suggesting that the Mountain must come to Mohammed.
This inversion feels apt, Leandro, unable to return to the mountain of his childhood, has chosen to bring it to him instead. In the room's stillness, each stone becomes a vessel of memory.Where there is a will, there is a way. This exhibition is ultimately about longing, absence, and the quiet, persistent ways we forge connection.

Gradient color vases. Mixed clay.Exhibit at SEESON, Saigon, 2023.

Landscape Gradients.
The ceramic collection explores the relationship between landscape shapes and gradients. The silhouettes of the vases were inspired by the phenomenon of the mirage. In the desert, with the heat emanating from the ground, human bodies often cast shadows that ripple and appear like water, distorting the figures, making the viewer wonder about its original shape.Leandro seeks to portray these vases like figures and contours from far away, like people walking in the distance on a sunny day in the desert, like a blurry memory of a dream. The vases are made from a gradient of stoneware and red clay from Southern Vietnam mixed with different oxides and clays. At the age of 10, Leandro became in contact with clay with the ceramic artist Rufina Gonzalez on the Island of La Gomera (SP) where he used to spend the summers with his grandparents and cousins. Rufina Gonzalez is one of the two remaining women who still works with the traditional techniques of the "aborigines” of the Islands. This ancient technique is called “Alisado”, using one single stone to rub the surface of the vase in order to make it smooth. This results in a unique texture that resembles skin. The vases showcase a dialogue on skin palettes evolving from one shade to another, raising the question of the “criollo” culture, the mixed ethnicities in different forms that were influenced by the Spanish colonies when they conquered the Canary Islands. Through this work, Leandro endeavors to understand the importance of what color gradient as it pertains to the skin means to society.

Wind Vents
This is a tribute to the venting terracotta tiles installed on the walls

This is a tribute to the venting terracotta tiles installed on the walls of colonial houses. These tiles were made from red clay in the south of Vietnam, a very rough and unvalued material by residents in Vietnam. It allows the current flow of air into the houses, cooling the hot air and excelling hot air.The new adaptation of the tiles, represents a scape of the mind through the artwork, imagining air flow into new spaces, creating a positive atmosphere and allowing a free run to imagination, remembering old traditions and functionality.

Volcano Chambers No.6 from “Landscape Gradients”
This collection is made with Red clays and Oxides, all materials from the South of Vietnam.

Exploration of the landscape shapes and the negative space.

Like volcano chambers, when the lava retiree and cools down, it leaves behind an empty space, often forming caves or containing underground water systems, connected to each ether.

“I start building up the container from the negative space left behind, the skin of the vase will be colored with oxides pigments, using the rubbing technique to compres the particles, creating a smooth rich and waterproof skin surface.”- Leandro Marcelino.

Leandro prepares the surface of the pieces with natural pigments and Oxides recreating skin alike texture, to stablish a discussion topic on skin colors and post colonization color shame.

3 Weeks of Design: The Culture of ObjectsJuly 5–26, 2025 | @gallery.mediumCurio Frame
Curio Frame began with a quiet habit. Whenever I visit a new place, whether deep in nature or wandering city streets, I find myself picking up small, forgotten objects: a broken tile, a smooth stone, a handmade trinket.
These pieces, humble as they are, hold a memory, a sense of place, a moment of stillness.
This frame was born from the desire to give those objects a home.
Made from a single sheet of metal, it folds easily by hand and mounts to the wall with minimal effort. But more than a hook or frame, it becomes a window, an invitation to reflect, to notice, to remember. It asks you to complete it.
To step outside, gather something that speaks to you, and place it inside.
Each time you do, the frame shifts, becoming a personal still life, a quiet portrait of your connection to the world.Curio Frame is a small gesture. A way to hold onto the intangible through the tangible.A reminder that meaning often lives in the simplest things we choose to keep.

Lava Formartions (2025)Lava Formation is a series of ceramic works that explores the movement of volcanic lava as it cools and solidifies after a violent eruption.
Each piece captures that suspended moment when raw, destructive energy slows into stillness, leaving behind flowing ridges, fractures, and textured surfaces that remember the heat that shaped them.
The works are made from stoneware and mixed clays, and are enriched with volcanic ash from La Palma (2021).
The ash ties the pieces directly to the landscape that inspired them.
